CALLING ALL FAMILIES!!
SUBMIT YOUR GRATITUDE VIDEOS
In preparation for our thanksgiving in-person worship celebration we're inviting all our families to submit videos of their family sharing what they are grateful for this season. We will then share your videos with the congregation during the thanksgiving service. We are fully aware that not everyone will be ready to rejoin us on October 11 but everyone is invited to be part of the service in their own way. We look forward to seeing each other in any way we can. Please e-mail your video submissions to the church office (firstname.lastname@example.org) by October 2.
PREPARATIONS FOR RE-OPENING
Helpers are needed Monday, October 5 at 9:30 a.m. to prepare the sanctuary for worship on Thanksgiving Sunday. All the cleaning and clearing away has taken place and next steps involve roping off the pews and posting signs. If you are free to lend a hand, please contact Peggy Munro (email@example.com or 519-881-0492.)
PROCEDURES FOR RESUMING WORSHIP
HAPPY FALL EVERYONE!
St. Paul's received a thank you note from Leslie and Elena Dobson. Leslie expressed her gratitude for our donation which assisted them during Elena's recovery. Leslie also thanked us "for the calls, prayers and positive thoughts."
They are waiting for further therapy to start so Elena can continue the healing process.
I know that we are keeping them in our prayers.
Your Council and Worship Committee have spent many hours planning the procedures which will enable us to resume worship on Sunday, October 11th. We feel confident that our plan will facilitate a safe and comfortable environment for our congregation.
Things will be different and no assumptions will be made. All aspects of re-opening must be stated even if it seems obvious. If you are feeling unwell, please do not attend, and for those who do attend you will be asked to review the self-assessment questions which will be posted.
We will socially distance and enter through the south door. Your name will be checked off a master list for contact tracing. You will be required to wear a mask and use the hand sanitizer which will be available. The offering plate will be in the foyer for you as you pass by.
The ushers will escort you to your seat. We will seat people from the front of the church to the back to avoid having to pass people multiple times. Seating will be distanced.
Once you are seated, please remain in your seat and avoid the urge to socialize. This may be one of the more difficult things to do as we have not been together for many months.
Worship will not include reciting in unison, singing or humming. Wendy Fung will provide music and the words to the hymns will be displayed on the screen.
Rev. Cathy will use the microphone at the lectern, a second lectern will be available with two additional microphones for the announcements and for "A Minute for St. Paul's." Sanitizing wipes will be available beside the microphone and we ask that you wipe down the microphone that is used.
When the service is over please remain seated until an usher escorts you towards the side entrance for exiting the church. We will exit from the front to the back. In other words, first in, first out.
So, that's the plan. Yes, it will be very different. Please know that all of these measures are to ensure that we all not only feel safe, but are safe and can continue our worship for future Sundays.
Thank you for your understanding because we know we are all in this together.
MESSAGE FROM YOUR MINISTER: OCTOBER 2, 2020
Saint Francis of Assisi, born in 12th century Italy, is known as a lover of nature and an advocate for peace and harmony. He reputedly lived a humble life of service, dedicated to rebuilding church ruins as sacred places of refuge. To this day, his chapel in Assisi is a pilgrimage destination for many, who have been sustained by a sense of love and joy, when reciting his prayer. The Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi is one my mother taught me and it has uplifted me over the years. It’s one of those rare prayers that pretty much says it all in a concise, yet poetic, manner. For instance, the reader is encouraged to replace conflict, hatred, injury, doubt, despair, depression, sadness with peace, love, forgiveness, faith, hope, lightness of being, joy.
Right now, at this point in time, we’re being called to focus on these seven positive items, as we try to create a more contemplative worship style that will respect all COVID-19 guidelines. It’s not every day that we get an invitation to centre ourselves and be inspired by the spiritual energy that surrounds us. Sometimes, in our busyness (yes, even during this pandemic!), we’re oblivious to the call in scripture to “Be still and know that I am GOD.” Here’s our chance to learn more about the meditative and ascetic aspects of Christianity, which enrich us with prayers like that of Saint Francis.
Of course, changing the way we worship is a work in progress, but we can find inspiration to keep on track from this week’s Epistle reading: “I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made…. Friends, don’t get me wrong. By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward…. I’m off and running and I’m not turning back.” The Message: Philippians 3: 12-14
